ENG/LAST 440 and LAST 550


Honduras Ann


Students will travel to rural Honduras over Winter Break to assist a recipient community in designing a new potable water system. This travel is performed in conjunction conjunction with ENG440/LAST440/LAST550 HWP, Real-World Design: Honduras Water Project course.


  • 3.0 GPA minimum
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Concurrent Enrollment in ENG440/LAST440/LAST550 or permission of instructor
  • No foreign language requirement for this program
  • Passport valid for 6 months after program dates and with at least two blank visa pages
  • Visa may be required.
  • Open to Non-Engineering


Help design and implement a water distribution system and health program in a rural Honduran community. By working closely with professional mentors you will work through every stage of the project and have the opportunity to travel to Honduras during Winter Break 2018.  Open to all majors, all levels.
ENG440/LAST440/LAST550 Course
All accepted students must participate in orientation meetings and enroll in a Spring 2018 course, ENG441/LAST441/LAST550.

  International Programs in Engineering (IPENG) Application: 
  1. Click the Apply Now button at the top-right of this page to apply.  You may only apply to one program per term. Log in with your UIUC netid and password. Once you start the application you will be charged a non-refundable application fee.
  2.  Submit all application materials by the deadline listed below.  
Online materials are due by 11:59 pm (CST) on the deadline date; paper materials are due by 4:45 pm (CST) the following business day.
After the application deadline, we will review all completed applications and nominate students for available spots in each exchange program. Application decisions are released two to three weeks after each deadline.


Participants live and work together with faculty and mentors in a remote community.  Sleeping areas typically are house floors with mats.  At least one faculty or mentor is with the student team at all times in the field.  Local guides always accompany teams around the village.
