Course Description

Students on the Arles program have the advantage of taking these courses, which are equivalent to those offered on campus, on an accelerated program in a completely French context. This program will improve their fluency in the French language and will also enrich them culturally. For a month students will live with host families and see how French people live, work and enjoy their free time.

This program will appeal to students in fulfilling their language requirement as well as those who are French, Global Studies, Business, Art History, Archaeology, Classics and Architecture, among other majors, who are interested in having a significant international cultural experience in France. The program is also open to graduate students in various fields who will need to have a second language to develop their career.

Students on the Arles program may opt to do for an additional fee an internship or a service learning experience at the end of their stay.

Each course is composed of two parts: general course content and a conversation section. The purpose of the conversation section is to discuss the weekly field study activities and to further develop students' oral comprehension and expression. Field study activities include guided tours of Arles and the major Roman monuments as well as museums such as the Van Gogh Foundation, the Reattu Fine Arts Museum and the Arles Antiquity Museum. All activities are interactive and require significant student participation.
